Find Out How to Prepare For a Diet the Right Way

Are you someone who has decided to alter your diet and begin eating more sensibly? Maybe you are someone who had tried to do this in the past many times and did not see the success you wanted. What is the reason for this? You may have fallen down the same path of many dieters. You might not have been mentally prepared for dieting properly.
There are those that might not take this assessment seriously. Some may not feel the concept of mental preparedness is necessary. Actually, it is more than just necessary. It can be extremely helpful. Diets are not only about cutting back on what you eat. It is not just about exercising. It is about having the right attitude for succeeding at the diet.
Remember, there are three facets to a successful diet. These facets must be properly balanced in order for it to be successful. These aspects include proper dietary intake, cooking and preparing your own food, and avoiding the common mistakes people make when they go on a diet.
When a dieter starts to feel overwhelmed, the dieter will often give up on his goals. This is unfortunate because no one can lose weight when the decision is made to quit a diet. Those with a proper and strong mindset can – and will – avoid the problem of quitting. A strong mental outlook can help someone stick to a diet no matter how tough food cravings may become.
One way to make sure that your goals are met is to make a checklist of goals that you can follow. When you have your goals written out, you can follow them to completion. This would allow you to chart your progress and keep you on track to succeed at your goals.
The benefit here is that you will not end up giving in to thoughts of quitting. Since you have a guide to follow, your ability to stay on your diet will increase. Does this all sound a little easy? In a way, it is and it is simple steps such as this that can help ensure a diet stays on the right track to success. Goals go hand in hand with developing the right mindset. That is why their value can never be overstated.
The mind is the origin point of success or failure when it comes to succeeding with a diet. Would you prefer your venture is successful or unsuccessful? If it is the former, you will definitely want to get the right into the right mindset. You can’t achieve your goals any other way.

Some people lose weight successfully than others because they employ some tricks in dieting. Here are some little tricks on dieting which is very simple and very commonsense.
Try to ward off bad eating habits. When you get a craving, you should drink a glass of ice water. It will make you feel fuller, and it can help you to get through your craving without giving in to it. Also, drinking water is essential to your diet, so it will help to satisfy your water consumption needs as well. So drinking eight glasses of water everyday is highly recommended. Moreover, water has zero calorie, zero chemical, zero caffeine, and the ideal thing to curb your appetite, so it is just right to drink water as much as you can.
So drinking eight glasses of water everyday is highly recommended. Moreover, water has zero calorie, zero chemical, zero caffeine, and the ideal thing to curb your appetite, so it is just right to drink water as much as you can. Drinking water will flush out the bad toxins in your body, will get your kidney’s working, and even help your metabolism speed up a little. Drinking water also takes up space in your stomach, it reduces the cravings just a bit, and will make you feel a little more full when you do eat your calories for the day.
Another useful diet trick is by tracking your progress on a regular basis. Its very easy to break your diet if you don’t monitor what you eat during the day. Get yourself a little journal that you write down what you’ve eaten, the amount of calories you’ve eaten, and what type of workout you’ve done for the day. By keeping track of the calories, you’ll make sure that you don’t go over a certain caloric amount during the day. Also, tracking your workout will also show you the areas that you’ve improved in. Keeping a journal of your progress is very important, because it shows you in some tangible way that you are making progress.
Plan ahead and look forward to your plans. Its better to prepare your breakfast, lunch and dinner, since you become a little more in control of your daily caloric intake. While you can eat at fast food places, know how many calories are in the food, how many grams of fat, etc. Also, if you are going to a restaurant, think ahead of what you want to eat there. Remove that temptation and stick to exactly what you planned on eating before going to the restaurant.
These are tricks that when done with sincerity can give you the slim figure youve been wanting to have.

Top 3 Fun Games For Kids’ Weight Loss!

Suppose that you’ve never worked out in life, and all of a sudden someone tells you that if you wish to get rid of your fat belly you, you have to hit the gym for two weeks straight and spend an average of six hours there per day! How would you react to that? Your first thought would be that it is better to keep your fat belly intact and watch that cool Hollywood movie instead of working so hard.
Well, that is the exactly the same way your kids think when they are asked to workout like crazy for the purpose of weight loss! However, if you ask them to do some fun activities which would keep them cheerful and help them lose weight at the same time, then nothing like it! In this article I prescribe three such fun activities for your kids!
1. Dog walking: Walking is one of the simplest ways to lose weight, but kids won’t want to walk without any incentive. Do you have a pet dog at home? If yes, the incentive could be that of taking the dog for a walk. If your kids are particularly attached to the pets at home, this would become simpler! Be a model to your kids and take the dog with you when going out for your regular morning walks, and your kids would soon follow suit!
2. The twister trick: Board games and video games surely make your kids fat, but not all games are that bad. Consider for example the twister game! Would you call it dull and boring? Definitely not! It is one game which kids of all ages are sure to enjoy, and since they cannot play it sitting on the couch, it would help them lose weight as well!
Again you could take the initiative by playing the game for your kids at first, and since kids like to emulate adults, they would soon mimic you!
3. Let the chair be filled with music: Okay, I mean musical chairs! This is a very well known game but very few people know that it could be used to make your kids lose the fat belly in an instant! The game is pretty simple: just get several hula hoops and chairs and put them all close to each other. Let the music begin!
The kids are supposed to walk in a big circle around the hoops or chairs as soon as the music begins. Immediately after music stops, the kids must jump fast into the hula hoops or the chairs; if anyone is unable to jump on the chair in time, he is sent back to the cheering section. Before the start of the next round of the game, you should take away one chair from the group!
An Absolutely Fantastic Method to Keep Your Kids Slim!
April 13, 2009 by Frances Norah Smith

We all know that the only method to keep our kids from getting any fatter is by making them eat healthy fruits and vegetables as well as forcing them to stay away from junk foods. However, any parent knows that it is easier said than done! After all, which kid would want to give up on the tasty junk foods for the sake of fruits and vegetables! Well, good news is that there is a little trick which works wonders in this case! In this article I will talk about that little-known but useful trick!
The trick is that of hiding healthy foods in the guise of ‘comfort’ foods. How about a spinach burger, or a ’soft drink’ made up of just plain water with a tad of sugar and a pint of natural lemon or mango flavor? How about replacing butter with margarine for the purpose of cooking those delicious and yummy popcorn balls? There are plenty of ingenious ways you can use to make your kids eat healthy foods without much fuss!
Now, there are certain things to keep in mind here:
1. First of all, contrary to what many parents believe, there is nothing unethical about tricking your kids into eating healthy foods; the only ‘bad’ thing which is going to happen as a result of this trick is that your child would be more and more addicted to healthy foods and his addiction towards junk foods would automatically disappear over time!
Most of the organic fruits and vegetables out there are rich in fiber, among other nutrients! Hence these foods help keep your kids full for a long time, and consequently, their appetite for junk foods is killed!
2. Secondly, while it is true that this tehnique only works for young children, it is also true that if you make them accustomed to healthy foods right from their infancy, it would be easier for them to incorporate healthy eating habits later in life, and when that happens, you won’t really need to trick them anymore by offering healthy foods camouflaged as junk foods! Remember that habits, good or bad, are adopted by human beings right from a very young age!
3. Thirdly, in the quest of making our children eat healthy foods, we must not lose sight of the foods they may be allergic too! Milk may be good for the growth of kids, but many kids are lactose intolerant and as such, cannot digest milk properly! The only solution is to offer skimmed or ‘fat-free’ milk instead!
Also there are many kids who are allergic even to the innocuous potatoes! If your kid dislikes potatoes no matter how you cook them, then there is more to it than its bland taste. However if your kid seems to prefer potato chips in place of roasted or steamed potatoes, then it is just an unhealthy food choice which needs to be taken care of. Granted that potatoes are high on carbs, but still, steamed potatoes are lower on calorie content than potato chips; plus your kids need carbs anyway!
2 Tips to Help Your Kids Get Rid of Their Fat Bellies!
April 12, 2009 by Frances Norah Smith

People learn only from their peers, and this holds true for adults as well as kids. It is no secret that the level of childhood obesity in the world is rising alarmingly with every passing year. Even though parents tend to blame their kids’ unhealthy lifestyle habits as the root cause of obesity, the fact remains that if parents are willing, they can change those habits during the growing years of their children.
Remember that a stitch in time saves nine; if you nip these bad habits of your kids in the bud then they would always remain fit and healthy. If you are clueless about what to do in this direction, I will tell offer you two tips on that!
Make no mistake, even though now I am a fitness professional, I too was a big, fat ugly kid detested by my class mates and neighbors alike! Just like your kids I too loved all the tasty and yummy junk foods my parents used to feed me.
My parents believed that I would cry less if they were to pamper me with delicious foods all the time; however this didn’t help at all as I cried even after all that ‘pampering’; if anything, I fell prey to unhealthy eating habits for which I had to pay dearly later on.
When I grew up a little, Mac Donalds became my regular destination and their burgers my all-time favorites! To top it all, my parents even took me to a doctor for they thought I was extremely underweight and malnourished, and oddly enough, that doctor only gave reassurance to my parents’ fears!
I don’t even need to tell you the end result of it all; soon I had a fatty belly and a pair of flabby arms which I detested very much (even though my parents seem to have no issues with them).
After keeping up with the taunts of my schoolmates for a while, I thought that enough was enough, and one day decided that I would lose weight no matter what!
1. Encourage your kids to idolize professional athletes and bodybuilders: These days, kids usually idolize movie stars and prefer to sit on the couch the entire day and watch movies of their favorite idols. There is nothing wrong with hero worship at all, as long as it helps your kids stay fit and avoid weight gain. Idolizing movie heroes and heroines won’t be of any use to them; on the other hand, idolizing professional sportspersons, body builders and athletes would really help them stay active all the time. While it is true that I got involved in hula hopping because it was a very popular sport among our neighborhood kids, I played tennis mainly because famous tennis players such as Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick were my idols (they still are).
When kids consider athletes to be their heroes, they like to emulate their active lifestyle and have a have a healthy body like them. Hence your kids would start eating healthy and indulging regularly in outdoor games!
2. Don’t stop your kids from participating in sports: So when I decided to lose weight, I started spending much more time in my favorite sports than I used to!! Thankfully, unlike the parents of some of my peers, my parents never prohibited me from indulging in outdoor sports.
Take a cue from this: if you are a parent and wish to keep your kids fit and healthy then keeping them from indulging in sports is just stupid! Far from making your kids sit at home and forcing them to stick their eyes on books throughout the entire day, you should actually encourage them to become active in life, since only active kids are able to keep the fat away for the rest of their lives!
Really, that is the only thing I did, apart from changing my unhealthy eating habits, in order to obtain the fit body that I still maintain! And you thought it was too difficult to help your kids lose weight!
3 Palate Training Tips to Ensure Your Kids Avoid Weight Gain!
April 12, 2009 by Frances Norah Smith
If you thought your kids have acquired their junk food eating habits from peers, you may not be wholly true! Habits start quite early in the life of a human, and if your kid is taught the benefits of healthy eating right from infancy, they are less likely to indulge in junk food eating out of peer pressure, if at all, than otherwise! A formula which works very well in this case is palate training.
Contrary to its name, this formula is pretty easy and straightforward, in that it doesn’t require any expert knowledge on your part! It was invented by two members of the Good Food Village Trust, Louise Rutten and Mitzy Wilson! Palate training is all about training the tastebuds of your kids in such a way that they start loving natural and healthy foods much more than those yummy fast foods! So let’s get right on it as to how to start training the palates of your kids!
1. Let them appreciate natural foods: Your kids would eat organic foods only when they love them! From quite an early age, you should educate your children that beets or carrots don’t taste bad! Conventional preaching doesn’t work too well in case of kids for whom, seeing is believing.
So you could go a bit further, peel off a carrot and let your kid lick it with his tongue or chop it off and ask him to put a piece on one side of his mouth and keep it there for a few moments to enjoy the taste. Such small and gradual steps would make your kid to like the taste of carrots! In fact, you can use this formula for any food you want your kids to eat!
2. Don’t encourage bad habits at home: While it is true that you don’t have absolute control over what your kid eats when he is out of home, you could still control his eating habits in a number of methods.
For example, when he goes to school, pack his lunch box with healthy fruits and vegetables. If your kid doesn’t eat it at school, make him eat the same at home. It is still possible that your kid may have a bite of pizza or hamburger at school or a sip of soft drink at a friend’s party! However, they won’t get addicted to them if you don’t allow those foods at home, since a kid needs to eat a particular food at least 14-15 for him to get addicted to it!
3. Walk the talk: It is easy to preach the benefits of healthy eating to your kids but do YOU follow your own advice? Remember that kids have a tendency to emulate the adults, particularly their parents, and if they catch you enjoying a packet of chips on a lazy Saturday evening, why would they be contented with a carrot or cabbage? If you wish to inculcate good eating habits in your kids, you need to adopt them yourself first!
10 Common Mistakes That Lead to Diet Sabotage
April 7, 2009 by Patrice M. Ruggieri
Have you ever been unintentionally sabotaged by a coworker, spouse or a complete stranger in the car next to you because they said or did something that upset you? You get upset, feel wounded and wonder why people can’t be nice. To feel better and soothe yourself you reach for the bag of M&Ms you swore you wouldn’t touch until you lost ten pounds. Welcome to emotional eating.
Stress, anger, anxiety, boredom, sadness, loneliness are all emotions that we tend to try to suppress or soothe. There are times that emotional eating includes emotions such as happiness. Experiencing excitement and getting caught up in the moment can also lead us to celebrate with food. Both positive and negative emotions have a way that an trigger us to respond by reaching for the M&M’s to either soothe a hurt or elevate an already happy moment.
Understanding Mood & Food
Did you know that certain foods have a seemingly addictive quality? When we eat certain foods such as chocolate, your body releases trace amounts of mood and satisfaction elevating hormones. Your body interprets this as a ‘reward’ and it may reinforce a preference for foods that are closely related with a certain feeling. Understanding this relationship can help us recognize when it is happening and have a plan in place to avoid it. Something as simple as leaving the room when we are upset or not having bad food in the office or house can be a great help. Doing something in place of eating can also re-program your response. Even how you think of eating the healthy food in place of the bad food can reprogram your response. To say ‘ I am stronger than a few words and I am not going to let it defeat me by eating unhealthy. I am going to show them by eating my best and looking my best’, is helpful. I know it sounds funny but it reinforces your desired efforts and results.
Food can also be a distraction. If you’re worried or anxious about something or are dealing with an unpleasant event [like your in-laws are coming for dinner], eating comfort foods may temporarily distract you. While you’re eating, your thoughts focus on the pleasant taste of your comfort food. Unfortunately, when you’re done overeating, your attention returns to your worries, and you may now feel the additional burden of guilt about overeating.
Knowing all of this can help you plan and make better choices. If you can recognize the feelings coming on you can shift them by doing something different to soothe or distract you. People with anxiety disorders use this type of distraction very successfully. Something as simple as a crossword puzzle, word search, cleaning or anything that changes your focus can be successful. It allows your body to take a break from the stress without sabotaging your weight loss efforts.
When we are upset, anxious and emotional it is hard to stop and think ‘what can I do to stop these feelings?’, “How can I distract myself?’ Having a few items in your head to turn too is a great help overcoming these emotional barriers.
Setting Up Support
Having a support system is vital to your weight loss success. Support helps you overcome those moments that can break your control and have you sneaking the donuts into your desk drawer at the office. Having someone to share and talk with really impacts your success. Today there are many places to get that support. Community websites, weight loss websites, friends, a weight loss buddy or even a coworker can be the voice of reason when you need it.
Instead of plunging head first into a bag of cheese puffs another option is to release your emotions and one way it can be accomplished by keeping a journal with you to write in when you feel the need to vent about someone or something. In addition, checking in at the end of the day with someone by phone or email is enough to keep you on track. Knowing that you will have someone to share your day with as well as the accountability factor is a great help. Being able to say that you handled the situation well verses you went to the drive through and had three happy meals, will build your self confidence each time you overcome the emotional urge to eat.
No Rules or Recognition
Sometimes you just need to make a nonnegotiable rule. Your rule can be nothing goes into my mouth without me thinking about why I am eating it, is it because of an emotion or hunger? ‘If I am emotionally eating I am going to eat a piece of fruit or small healthy snack or distract myself. Whatever your rule, stick with it without negotiations. Learn to recognize true hunger. Is your hunger physical or emotional? If you ate just a couple of hours ago and don’t have hunger pains, you’re probably not really hungry. Give the craving a few minutes to pass. The average craving lasts 5-15 minutes. You can handle that
What’s Your Trigger
It is hard to avoid something your are not consciously recognizing. If you don’t take time to identify what triggers you it is unlikely you will be able to put the breaks on it. For the next several days, write down what you eat, how much you eat, when you eat, how you’re feeling when you eat and how hungry you are. Over time, you may reveal negative eating patterns and triggers to avoid. Many people avoid this exercise and it is one of the most powerful tools to propel you forward.
Lack of Redirection
Redirection is used for many people with anxiety disorders. I personally have seen it work on my son who was diagnosed with severe Contamination Obsessive, Compulsive disorder. Redirection was something he was unknowingly doing to get through his anxiety, which at the time was classified at a 10 on a scale of 1-10 and he was not on medication to soothe him. If he can do it at a level 10 anxiety so can we when our lives for the moment overwhelm us to the point of wanting to reach for the Dorito’s. What he would do would be to zone out for few minutes if he felt anxious or uncomfortable. Similar to how we can feel when we get upset or anxious about something and turn to food. He would day dream, do a puzzle, Lego’s, take a walk [this helped tremendously], listen to music that he liked, wrote in a fantasy journal about anything other than his anxiety or discomfort, basically do anything that took him away for the moment until he could better handle it. He would just redirect his focus.
Look to see what other people do when they get upset rather than turn to food. Some people like to clean when they get upset [me] because you get immediate gratification from it [sounds like what you get from food when you eat it when your am upset], some just recognize the incident as a negative give themselves a time limit to be mad and then choose to release the anger [because it doesn't effect the person who made them mad and only hurts them if they hold on to it]. Have a list of quick rewards that don’t involve food handy so you don’t have to think doesn’t about what you should do you can just pick from the list. Splurge on you.
Keep it clean
Avoid having an abundance of high-calorie comfort foods in the house. Also don’t go food shopping when you feel hungry or blue, postpone the shopping trip for a few hours so that these feelings don’t influence your decisions at the store. Get rid of the unhealthy food. Many people tell me the food is there for their kids. My response is why? Why would you want to feed your kids unhealthy foods that will hurt them in the long run? Did you give them unhealthy formula when they were babies? They are still developing and they still need good food, even more than you do. So you need another excuse. No excuse is a good excuse, just get rid of it and replace it with healthy alternatives.
Not Eating a Balanced Diet
Try to eat at fairly regular times and don’t skip breakfast. Include foods from the basic groups in your meals. Go for the whole grains, vegetables and fruits, as well as low-fat dairy products and lean protein sources. When you fill up on the basics, you’re more likely to feel fuller, longer. If you’re not getting enough calories to meet your energy needs, you may be more likely to give in to emotional eating. Try eating a piece of fruit high in fiber like an apple before your meals. studies have shown people eat less during their meals.
Poor Choices for Snacking
Snacks are just as important as your meals. If you feel the urge to eat between meals, choose a low-fat, low-calorie food, such as fresh fruit, vegetables with fat-free dip or non buttered popcorn or test low-fat, lower calorie versions of your favorite foods to see if they satisfy your craving. Your snack should be between 100-200 calories or not much more so choose wisely.
Exercise & Rest
Choosing the right amount of exercise is equally important. Try to work towards 30 minutes a day and then increase to 45- 60 minutes if possible down the road. Remember you can break it up throughout your day. Try not to burn your candle at both ends. As hard as that can be some days it is very important to get enough rest. People who are tired have repeatedly shown in study after study that they consume more calories. Your mood is more manageable and your body can more effectively fight stress when it’s fit and well rested.
No Emotional Release
People do not factor in the emotional elements of their day and how it effects their decisions about food. Many times the emotion [i.e. anger] that we feel is a trigger that makes us turn to food for self soothing. We find our mind chatter telling us that, We deserve it because they did this to me, or because No one recognizes all the hard work I do. You are feeling frustrated at something or someone. We all have a right to get upset and no one should be treated badly. However, it is how we handle the anger that is important.
Learn to release the emotion, communicate your feelings so you can redirect the anger to be useful and not self sabotaging. [write in a journal or talk to a friend, wellness coach or online forum if you dont want to talk with the person who made you upset]. The important word here is learn.
