The Truth about Antioxidants and Cancer
August 13, 2009 by Travis Van Slooten

People are frequently discussing the benefits of antioxidants. Antioxidants work to slow down the process of cancer and sometimes even prevent it. Yes, the underlying truth regarding antioxidants and cancer simply is that antioxidants really work to prevent the development of cancer in your body.
Antioxidants work in the body to protect the molecular cells from suffering damage from free radicals. Free radical damage can often lead to different types of cancer. Antioxidants like Vitamins A, C, E, lycopene and beta-carotene work to stabilize these free radicals and keep them from doing further damage to your cells.
There has been a lot of laboratory studies conducted that show not only that they work to slow down cancer but that they may even possibly prevent cancer development. In fact, many cancer patients load up on antioxidants to slow down the cancer process.
While fruits and vegetables are the best sources of antioxidants, they can also be found in other foods including certain meat products, poultry, fish, and nuts. Common anti-oxidants that are most useful in combating free radicals in the body are beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, selenium, and Vitamins A, C, and E. If you don’t act to repair the free radicals already found in your body, they will only grow more in number as by stealing electrons from other atoms, these in turn, will become free radicals too. The more free radicals are presents in one’s body, the greater the possibility of cell damage, until eventually you may develop cancer-ridden cells.
Antioxidants work to flush free radicals out of the body and they work on repairing the damage already caused by the free radicals. So you may wonder where free radicals come from and why your body has so many to fight against. The answer is that the free radicals are formed because of numerous causes. The process of breathing in oxygen causes free radicals. You will also get free radical formation from pollution, exposure to sunlight, cigarette smoking and food digestion.
Regardless of whether you are worried about the free radicals in your system causing cancer or you are genetically disposed to get cancer, you should begin to consume a lot more fruits and vegetables, as well as other foods that are packed with them.
You should also pick out a high quality supplement of antioxidants because most of us just don’t get enough of them in our bodies to actually stabilize and rid ourselves of the free radicals in our bodies. Not only will a supplement help you, but it will also give you the fighting power of vital nutrients and their benefits.
How To Kill Hunger With This Powerful Homemade Hoodia Shake

Hoodia shakes are so effective at suppressing appetite because they contain two very powerful ingredients – protein and hoodia gordonii, and what’s more, both of these are totally natural. Dieters have used various protein powders as a way to suppress appetite for many years, but not many realize that a protein shake is actually strong enough on it’s own to really stop hunger. If this power is combined with hoodia gordonii, then you get an exceptionally effective product.
Hoodia shakes are a quick and easy product to use, however I do have a few concerns. Firstly, it can be quite hard to find them, and there isn’t much choice or variation in flavours because there are only a few products available. What is available, tends to be very expensive, which means you are paying a top price for something that is basically protein powder which has only a small amount of hoodia gordonii in each scoop.
My hoodia shake recipe will give you a shake that has a minimum of 750mg of hoodia gordonii in each scoop, which is a lot when you consider that most of the other shakes available to buy today only contain around 500mg of hoodia per scoop. By following my recipe, you will also be able to make a hoodia shake that is much cheaper than store bought shakes too.
One of the great things about making your own hoodia shake is that you can choose what type of protein to use. You can use soy protein or whey protein. You can also choose what flavors you want. There are many popular brands of protein powders available and they come in so many flavors beyond the usual chocolate and vanilla. One popular brand of protein powder has such flavors as banana cream, strawberry, tropical punch, and cookies and cream!
Your hoodia shake is basically made up of a mix of protein powder and hoodia gordonii, so first of all you need to buy a tub of your preferred protein powder. You will be able to pick up a large pack fairly cheaply, and this should last you for around 30 servings. Secondly, buy some hoodia diet tablets. Make sure they contain 100% genuine hoodia gordonii. You can typically expect these products to have at least 750mg of hoodia in each capsule.
Fill a glass with some low fat milk, or even water, and then add in a serving of the protein powder you bought. To get the hoodia from the diet pills, carefully pull apart the capsule and add the powder to your drink. Make sure you mix your drink well, or maybe even blend it with some ice, and then enjoy! Not only have you just made a really tasty shake that will suppress your appetite, you will find that you have paid a lot less for your shake than any other hoodia products available on the market!
The real beauty about making your own shakes compared to buying them, is that you are in complete control over the strength of your drink. You can vary the amount of protein powder and hoodia gordonii you use in each drink, and you can even add other ingredients, such as some fibre to suppress your appetite even further. It really is totally up to you.
Curb Your Appetite and Lose Weight Fast with Desert Burn Hoodia

With so many people reporting they have reached their weight loss goals using Desert Burn hoodia, I had to do a little investigation. So many diet pills have outrageous claims. I wanted to see for myself if the hype around Desert Burn was authentic, or if it was another marketing scheme. Most everyone knows by now that there are many hoodia supplements on the market that aren’t manufactured in a way that truly work-or they are outright fakes. But, after doing my research on Desert Burn, I have to say that it is authentic and it’s possible to reach your weight loss goals quicker and easier using this supplement.
The reason Desert Burn works is the company that manufacturers it doesn’t take any short cuts. It gets raw hoodia gordonii from South Africa, uses the part of the plant that works as an appetite suppressant, and they pack their capsules with 100% authentic hoodia. There are no stimulants or fillers. It’s that simple.
I like the fact that the company posts the random, independent lab tests results that are done on Desert Burn on their website for the world to see. They let their product speak for itself. The company doesn’t have to use hype and manipulation to keep an interest in their hoodia supplements. In the words of Dr. Phil, “People who have nothing to hide, hide nothing,” and the manufacturers of Desert Burn have nothing to hide. Their product is authentic and it works as a powerful appetite suppressant.
Red flags go up for me when I see outrageous claims for hoodia supplements like, “Lose 20 Pounds in Two Weeks,” or “Drop 10 Inches in Your Waist in a Month”. A lot of this is just hype because many of these products do not contain enough of the beneficial parts of the hoodia plant in them to curb anyone’s appetite. Generally, people need around 2,250 to 3,000mg of hoodia per day to suppress their appetites. Any hoodia capsules that contain less than 400mg of hoodia are really just a waste of money. Desert Burn’s 750mg capsules are very potent. This high dosage of hoodia means fewer pills will be needed and a bottle will last longer. When you take into account that Desert Burn is also a very affordable product, it’s a very smart hoodia diet pill choice.
As with anything in life, there will be things you don’t like. I was disappointed that the manufacturer of Desert Burn doesn’t offer vegetable capsules. Yet, people who have adverse reactions to gelatin capsules can still use the product. They will just need to pull the capsules apart and mix the hoodia into some liquid. On the positive side, individuals always have the option of purchasing Desert Burn’s liquid hoodia product or their hoodia tea and coffee products.
Desert Burn is a small company, their representatives are very friendly and their straightforward and honest approach is very refreshing. I will say that their website is not as professional as I had hoped. But, that is fixable and has no bearing on their product-unless you are the kind of person who clicks away from a site that is somewhat disorganized or who is turned off by sites that have music playing automatically! If that’s you, Desert Burn may lose a few sales until they improve their site.
In summary, Desert Burn hoodia passed my tests with flying colors. It’s powerful and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for authentic and affordable hoodia diet pills to help curb their appetite when trying to lose weight.
What You Should Know About the Hoodia 60 Minutes and BBC Reports

I’ve been researching and writing about hoodia supplements for over a year now and I can’t believe I haven’t written an article about hoodia, 60 minutes, and the BBC reports. What sparked my interest in finally writing this story was because I was fed up with all the bogus 60 minutes and BBC endorsements of specific hoodia diet pills.
There are a number of websites that promote or sell hoodia supplements that say “as seen on 60 minutes” or “endorsed by” followed by the logos of the BBC or the 60 minutes program. This is a misrepresentation because it leads many consumers to believe that the product being sold is endorsed by these two media giants. When, in all actuality, neither of them have endorsed or tested a hoodia diet supplement.
60 minutes did do a hoodia story on November 21, 2004. Reporter, Leslie Stahl, went to the Kalahari Desert in South Africa to see the hoodia gordonii plant growing in the wild. She wanted to eat a small piece of it herself to see if it affected her appetite. After eating the plant, Stahl reported the hoodia gordonii plant worked to suppress her appetite and she wasn’t hungry the entire day.
This was all that Stahl reported about hoodia. Stahl, nor 60 minutes, endorsed a specific brand of hoodia diet pill. In fact, 60 minutes didn’t even feature a specific hoodia supplement in their show. But, you wouldn’t know this unless you had seen the program yourself or read the show’s transcript. Hoodia sellers are simply taking this report and twisting it around to their advantage in an attempt to sell their specific hoodia supplements.
In regards to the BBC, they did a documentary on hoodia in 2003. BBC correspondent, Tom Mangold, also took a trip to the Kalahari Desert to test the hoodia gordonii plant on his own appetite. Mangold and his camera man both took a small piece of the hoodia plant and ate it. They both reported they, “did not even think about food” for the remainder of the day. What was even more amazing about their report was they said they weren’t hungry for breakfast the following day and their appetite at lunch was still virtually nonexistent.
Just like the hoodia 60 Minutes report, Mangold’s BBC report did not involve the testing of any hoodia products and it did not endorse a particular hoodia diet pill. The reports by Stahl and Mangold were on the plant itself, not supplements. Neither tried a hoodia product or mentioned a specific brand of hoodia supplement.
If you find yourself visiting a website that claims their product was featured on 60 minutes or the BBC, go to another site. Any company that would twist the hoodia 60 minutes or BBC reports to their own advantage is misrepresenting themselves and their product. They are not being honest. If they aren’t honest about something like this, how honest are they about the effectiveness and authenticity of their product?
What You Should Know About Those Free Hoodia Trials

The popularity of obtaining free hoodia samples is on the rise. If you don’t know very much about hoodia gordonii, it helps people lose weight because it’s a natural appetite suppressant. Hoodia is an all-natural supplement that is very safe and has virtually no side effects. Hoodia is becoming one of the top weight loss pills on the market.
There are so many companies making hoodia that it’s only a given that many of them would offer free hoodia samples to consumers. They hope people will like their samples so much that they will come back to them and make future purchases. It sounds like a win-win deal for both consumers and companies.
Unfortunately, agreeing to a free hoodia sample isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. For starters, most of the hoodia for free is not authentic. One expert believes that the percentage of fake hoodia diet pills on the market today could be as high as eighty percent! Only authentic hoodia gordonii has the potential to suppress appetite so taking a fake product isn’t going to do anything. You may be getting your hoodia for free but what good is it if it doesn’t help suppress your appetite?
Before you agree to receive free hoodia samples from a company, make sure the hoodia they are offering you is authentic and not fake. The two easiest ways to identify real hoodia from fake hoodia is to view the company’s CITES certificates and their lab test results which were completed through an independent lab.
In regards to CITES certificates, these certificates must be obtained by the government of South Africa before you can legally ship hoodia gordonii out of their country. If a company doesn’t have one, they are not using hoodia gordonii that is authentic South African hoodia gordonii. Companies that do bring in the real plant from South Africa for their products will proudly display their CITES certificates for all to see. To prove they have nothing to hide they will also have independent labs test their products for authenticity.
Displaying CITES certificates and lab test results is how genuine companies convey to consumers that the hoodia products being sold on their sites are indeed authentic. If you visit a website offering free hoodia samples and you can’t locate their CITES certificates or lab test results, you are probably looking at a company that doesn’t use authentic hoodia gordonii in their supplements. Getting free hoodia samples from these sites is just a waste of time on your part. They won’t work.
You should know that most companies will have you pay the shipping and handling on any free samples they send you. Also, sometimes agreeing for free hoodia samples may mean you are agreeing to be autoshipped more products at full price down the road.
When you are signed up in an autoship program, a company may ship you a 30 or 60 day supply of their hoodia every month or so. These programs can be cost effective and convenient if you are dealing with a company that is producing authentic hoodia gordonii supplements.
If you sign up for free hoodia samples, make sure you understand how to cancel out of the trial and that you know whether you are being enrolled into an autoship program. Many companies will try to make you believe it’s easy to get out of these programs. But, in many cases it’s not as easy as they would have you believe.
There are countless individuals who have found their credit is ruined because they naively agreed to receive free hoodia samples. Many of these people didn’t know they were going to be autoshipped anything in the future. When they would try to cancel out of the program, they were unable to get in touch with anyone, or their requests to quit were ignored. Yet, month after month their credit card is billed.
Be smart before you accept any free hoodia samples. Make sure you have read all the information involved in receiving the samples. Make sure you have a telephone number for the company. Before you agree to the samples, call the number and see if there is a person on the other end who can answer your questions about the free hoodia trial. Talking with someone can help you determine if the company is on the up-and-up.
You should go through this same process with any email address you are given as a point of contact with the company. Send an email inquiry with questions. How quickly did you get a response? Were your questions answered sufficiently? If you can’t make contact with a live person via email or telephone, it is probably a good idea to decline the offer for free hoodia samples.
These free hoodia trials can be a smart way to try hoodia without spending a lot of money, but you need to be careful before you hand over your credit card information. By following these simple guidelines you’ll be able to find legitimate free hoodia samples that won’t just empty your wallet!

Hoodia dieting tablets are among the most recent dieting cult supplements to hit the market and it’s not surprising why. Advertised “all-natural, 100 percent vegan dieting tablets” that have been used for centuries and they are certainly attractive to people who want to lose weight. Well, they are at least interesting to persistent dieters who are always ready to try different slimming products.
Ready to find out more? Here’s everything you need to know about Hoodia dieting tablets. These tablets works in a way by which it deceives the mind into thinking that you’ve had enough food intake thus losing your appetite to eat more resulting to a decreased food intake that can really help lose some weight.
Made from the Hoodia Gordonii plant, which has been used by ancient man to “kill hunger” during wars and long battles. Hoodia diet pills claim to have the highest concentrations of Molecule P57, which is the chemical substance that blocks hunger signals to your brain.
In case you are wondering about the price of Hoodia Gordonii diet tabs, they vary from one retailer to the other, but you could get Hoodia Gordonii dieting tablets starting from around $12 going up to $60, for tabs which have stronger variations. To check out whether these would work at all for you, you could start with a bottle containing 90 capsules and can last for a month, and this works out cheapest. Usually, to get a hold of 60 pieces of 750 milligram capsules you will have to pay about $30 or more.
If you are struggling with night time hunger and/or the yearning for junk foods, then you might as well consider taking the elixir formulations which at the same price range can be bought. There are some special preparations of fat-burning Hoodia capsules available, which cost less than $40 and the consumption pattern of such caps is 2 to 3 times a day before meals.
If you want to spend more than $40, then opt for combo formulations. They are believed to be better in terms of speed of action and efficacy. These extra strength Hoodia dieting tabs contain over and above Hoodia Gordonii Biogenic amines, Cinnamon twig extract, Spirulina, enzyme amalgamations and more.
Be aware of phony products: The addition of such fillers like Caffeine, Epherda and other similar ingredients is done by some deceitful producers to market a lot of Hoodia Gordonii dieting tablets without using as much of the essential ingredients as required. Just before you make any purchase of Hoodia dieting tablets, be keen in finding out whether the producer is trustworthy since many of them can deceive you due to the scarcity in Hoodia which is principally the reason why fraudulent acts are done.
Find and trust only those manufacturers which produce the finest diet pills with the accurate dosage and promote high-potency products by knowing if they have access to Hoodia farms that are usually located in South Africa.
Does Hoodia Gum Really Work?
April 30, 2009 by Reagan Miers
Over the past few years the dieting world has been shook up by the introduction of a number of speciality hoodia products, such as hoodia gum, hoodia chews, and hoodia pops. All of these products claim to be able to effectively and almost instantly suppress your appetite. Therefore helping you to lose weight because by controlling your appetite you will eat less.
Now this may sound like a dream come true to many of you, but I certainly have my doubts. For a start I do not believe that any of these hoodia gum products actually contain genuine hoodia gordonii. Hoodia gordonii is a plant that is found only in South Africa, and contains a molecule called P57 which can actually trick the brain into thinking you are full. Even though there are many varieties of hoodia, only hoodia gordonii contains this molecule.
There is a worldwide shortage of hoodia gordonii at present because the supply simply cannot meet the demand. This means that genuine hoodia gordonii is very expensive. Hoodia supplements have been increasing in popularity over the past few years, with many manufacturers deciding to jump on the bandwagon offering everything from hoodia gum to hoodia tea. Many companies though have cut corners to increase their profit margins by either diluting the amount of hoodia gordonii their product contains, or by using a different form of hoodia, so they can still claim to be a hoodia product.
The reason these companies have been able to get away with this is because hoodia supplements are not regulated. It is up to the consumer to get educated on the facts about hoodia products such as hoodia gum to make sure they don’t get scammed. The majority of the hoodia supplements and products on the market today are fake – meaning they contain very little, if any, hoodia gordonii. One expert says that the percentage of fake hoodia supplements could be as high as 80%!
However, there are a number of things you can do to protect yourself from scammers. The most important thing to do is to look for CITES certificates and independent lab test results when you are considering buying a hoodia product like hoodia gum. These should be able to be found on the companies website. If you cannot find them, then the product they are marketing is very likely to be a fake that does not contain genuine hoodia gordonii.
Even though I have researched several hoodia gum websites, I have yet to find a site that clearly displays these documents for their customers. This leads me to believe that the products they are marketing do not contain any hoodia gordonii, even though they are advertised as being an immediate and powerful suppressant for your appetite. And if the product does not contain hoodia gordonii, then it will have virtually no ability to suppress your hunger at all.
Just for a minute let’s suppose that these products did actually contain authentic hoodia gordonii. I still doubt they would be effective at reducing your appetite because they simply would not contain the amounts of hoodia needed. Hoodia gum products usually state that they contain between 20-150mg of hoodia per stick. That’s nowhere near enough to suppress appetite.
Some experts and doctors say that it can take as much as 3,000mg of hoodia gordonii per day to effectively suppress appetite. At a minimum, most people need anywhere between 800-1,500mg per day to suppress appetite. Assuming you’re able to get by with 800mg per day to suppress your appetite, you’d still need to chew several sticks of gum with each stick only containing 20-150mg of hoodia gordonii!
The other thing that worries me about these hoodia products is that on the ingredients list, they mostly all claim to be made from concentrated hoodia gordonii extract. The thing is, there is only one company that actually has the legal authority to carry out this extraction process and that company is called Phytopharm.
Phytopharm is a British pharmaceutical company that was given the patent to extract P57 for use in weight loss products. They have spent several years and millions of dollars trying to figure out how to extract P57 to use in weight loss products on a mass scale. Despite the time and money spent, they still haven’t been able to do it. How then can a hoodia gum product claim to use a hoodia extract?
At the end of the day I am still sceptical about hoodia gum products. I doubt they will be effective at controlling appetite because the vast majority of them will not contain any hoodia gordonii, and those that do will only have a very tiny amount. If you are still wanting to try hoodia gordonii though I would highly recommend that you stick with the established hoodia diet tablets.
Manage Your Diet with Hoodia Gordonii

There are a number of people who are unsure about how hoodia diet pills affect a person on a day-to-day basis. They are also unsure of what they can and cannot eat while taking them. While these supplements have been very popular over the past few years, they have still been a mystery to many people.
Basically, hoodia gordonii is a natural appetite-suppressing product. It does not have fat-burning qualities nor does it have any unpleasant side effects. What it does is send a message to the brain misleading it to think that you are full; hence, you will lower your intake and lose weight in the process. Many users testify that after taking hoodia, they lose interest in eating.
As for what you can and cannot eat, the sky’s the limit but if weight loss and your health is a priority then you should obviously strive to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Again, since hoodia is an appetite suppressant you may not be as hungry as you normally are. In fact, you may be tempted to skip a meal.
Despite feeling full and not having the desire to eat, you should make sure you eat a balanced meal anyway. Your body not only needs the nutrients but the calories are necessary to keep your metabolism burning high. When you restrict calories your body’s metabolism slows down so you’ll put on weight instead of losing it!
The great thing about hoodia diet pills is that you’ll have greater control over what you eat and how much you eat. Since you won’t be as hungry as you used to be, you won’t be tempted to overeat and you’ll be more motivated to eat healthier foods. That’s the true power of hoodia gordonii – gaining control over your diet.
Lastly, let me call attention to the fact that the effectiveness of hoodia diet supplements varies from person to person, and for some, don’t work at all. For the best prospects of making hoodia pills work for you, get the real product and not one of the many fake brands in the market. Before buying one, take time to research and read.
As soon as you come across a hoodia product that’s effective, start taking control of your eating habits. Plus, you don’t have to worry about unwanted side effects, so achieving your weight loss goals is simple and effortless.
Knowing the Risks of Using Hoodia

When discussing the potential dangers of hoodia we can look at the San Bushmen of South Africa. They have been using this cactus-like plant to suppress appetite for many centuries to stave off hunger during hunting trips with no reported side effects of hoodia. The Bushmen’s use of hoodia, however, has been much different than the modern use of hoodia supplements.
The Bushmen use hoodia in its raw, natural form. They literally cut a piece of the plant, peel it, and then eat it. This is a lot different than popping hoodia supplements, where the hoodia has been processed and is in powder form. That being said, there are no known dangers of hoodia supplements to date.
Hoodia supplements haven’t been around that long so the jury is still out on the side effects of hoodia supplements over the long term. Anyone considering taking them should keep a careful eye out for any new studies and research for any potential dangers of hoodia that might arise down the road.
When hoodia was first made available on the market, people were hesistant to try it out, worried that perhaps this new product would turn out to be another Ephedra – another weight loss supplement that turned out to have potentially severe side effects. This was simply not the case as hoodia, unlike Ephedra, is not a stimulant.
There are no dangers of hoodia because of the simplicity of how it works. Hoodia works as a weight loss supplement by suppressing your appetite. The active ingredient in Hoodia, P57, essentially tricks the hypothalamus-the part of the brain responsible for telling you that you’re hungry or full.
As soon as you ingest food into the body, this is separated into its sugar components. When this occurs two things happen: the hypothalamus sensors identify that sugar is present in the body, and start to diminish the body’s longing for food. The P57 in Hoodia produces the same effect on the hypothalamus but 10,000 times more powerful! In essence, the brain is tricked into thinking that the body has taken in plenty of food, and removes the craving to eat.
On the outset, hoodia diet pills do not come with any known side effects or hazards. It is not confirmed however, if they are safe for pregnant and nursing women. Like all other medications and vitamins, a consultation with the doctor is important before women who are pregnant or nursing can try using hoodia supplements.
The amount of hoodia that one should take in is also an essential factor to think about. Even if no hazards have been observed with hoodia, as with anything else, moderation should be observed. Because of its appetite-suppressing capabilities, there is always the possibility that when too much hoodia is taken, you could miss out on eating so often and end up being under-nourished!
In closing, let me remind you that hoodia could pose a certain danger if you use it in place of healthy, balanced meals. Do not depend on hoodia pills alone for losing weight. Hoodia should only serve primarily as an appetite-suppressant to stop you from overeating and not to let your body waste away from lack of nutrition. When you take hoodia supplements while having a healthy, balanced diet and a regular fitness program, you are well on your way to achieving your weight loss goals.
