What The Supplement Companies Aren’t Telling You

Obesity rates are on the rise and show no signs of slowing down. And this isn’t just happening in the western world, it’s happening all over the world. Thus, quick fixes are more attractive than ever before.
But too many unsuspecting consumers are unaware of what happens behind the scenes in supplement companies.
So here are some common myths about dietary supplements:
1. Natural means they are risk free: Everything comes with risk and there are many natural substances that will kill you. So don’t make the mistake of assuming that just because a supplement is labeled as natural that it’s safe for you.
2. Testing is comprehensive: Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, supplement companies are under little, if any pressure from the government to test their products extensively. You see, current legislation places the burden of safety on the government.
3. Supplements are backed by all sorts of studies: Most of the charts and graphs you see on the bottles are manufactured. Even worse, they are performed by the same companies selling the products. And this is a perfect breeding ground for conflicts of interest.
4. Your health always takes first priority: Where there is profit to be made, the consumer’s best interest will not necessarily take the number one spot. After all, a business cannot survive unless the model is profitable. Thus, there is always a constant battle between the two.
5. Fish oil is safe in high doses: Anything in excess can cause harm. And fish oil is no exception here. You see, if you consistently take more than three grams a day, you run the risk of increasing oxidation in your heart. So moderation is key here.
6. More is better: Not only is taking mega doses of vitamins potentially toxic, but it can interfere with other medications you may be taking. There have been countless cases of people who unknowingly stack up on vitamin pills that have lethal interactions with their medications.
There are no guarantees with supplements. You never know what is going to come in that bottle of pills. So make sure you proceed with caution here.

Bring Out Your Beauty With The Magic Of Cosmetics

Beauty enhancing cosmetics are available in a wide range of products thanks to great advances in our modern cosmetics industry. To beautify our personal appearance most people opt for cosmetics to enhance their allure and with such a wide range available, the current range and variety is unsurpassed.
Some preparation is required before applying your make up, to ensure that the overall effect is longer lasting. Your first step is to select a cleansing lotion designed to suit the unique needs of your skin and to thoroughly cleanse your face, neck and decolletage area. This is akin to a painter preparing his canvas before setting out to create a wonderful masterpiece.
Toning solutions are highly under-rated, but are an essential step to refining your pores and aid in the removal of any lingering traces of cleansing lotion. They serve prevent daily grime from settling in the pores and clogging them. Be sure to invest in a richly moisturizing lotion that is, once again, designed to cater to the unique needs of your skin type.
At this point you should apply a blemish stick to disguise any blemishes or skin discoloration that you may have. Use a good quality concealing stick to disguise dark circles under your eyes. You are now ready to apply your foundation. Select a shade that is as close as possible to your own, keeping in mind that foundation should look as natural as possible as it is a base layer used to minimize the appearance of minor blemishes.
Ensure that your foundation is blended smoothly into your hairline and that you blend it over your jaw line onto your throat, not stopping abruptly in a distinct hard line that will give an unnatural look. Do not neglect the eyes and apply a small amount of foundation to both upper and lower lids. Whether you prefer a loose or compact powder, always apply it in light, sweeping motions, not forgetting your throat and decolletage area. Select a natural shade to blend in with your foundation.
Your preference for the color of your eyeshadow is partly up to personal taste and may also be dictated by the color of your eyes. Do not use an eyeshadow that matches your eye color as this will detract from it, giving your eyes a muddy cast. Match your makeup to the occasion, using lighter shades for day wear and darker tones for evening functions.
Generally those with blue, grey and green eyes should choose a warmer palette, while those with dark eyes, whether brown or dark blue, can lean more towards the cooler spectrum of the color palette. Eyeliner defines the eyes beautifully and should be applied to both upper and lower lids to define and enhance the shape of your eyes.
When applying your eyeshadow, use darker tones for the crease and lid area. You can also apply some color to the lower lid, just beneath the lashes. Use a lighter shade of shadow above the crease along the brow bone and then slick a dark or complimentary shade of mascara onto the lashes of both upper and lower eyelids. When applying your blusher, follow the hollow of the cheeks beneath the cheekbones. The final step in your beauty regime is to complete the look with a rich shade of lipstick or gloss and to retouch during the day as necessary.
There are many steps that can be taken to remain youthful and radiant. Hair removal, exercise, skin care, hair care and a trip to the beauty salon can all help this process.

Practical Aromatherapy: Home Use of the Antiseptic Essential Oils
April 29, 2010 by Laura Dees

The anti-bacterial action of essential oils may be their most studied effect, in-part because these are simple experiments to perform. Place a piece of filter paper saturated with an essential oil in the center of a petri dish and watch the growth, or lack of, bacteria around the paper. The larger the area where bacteria do not grow, the stronger the action of that particular essential oil inhibiting that particular strain of microbe. This test, known as an Aromatogram, was popularized by French scientist Paul Belaiche. Through extensive research, large tables of data now allow aromatherapists to quickly find the most efficacious oils once the infecting species of bacteria is known. But you don’t have to be a scientist to make use of this information – there are many simple, effective means for using essential remedies for yourself and your family and children as part of a holistic natural health program for your household.
Each single, pure essential oil consists of several, sometimes hundreds of distinct natural chemicals. Essential oils derive their antimicrobial effect from their unique chemical makeup. It turns out that nature has been doing a remarkable job of therapeutic blending. Many of these have antimicrobial activity, and show synergistic effects; blends of the chemicals – as found naturally in the oils – can be more potent than any individual chemical alone. Studies have often shown that combinations of essential oil components are more effective against bacteria than any single isolated constituent. Think of this the next time you might reach for Bactine or some iodine tincture – the formulations nature has made herself will likely work better, and will most assuredly smell nicer.
Research exists describing the effective, broad-spectrum of antimicrobial action from essential oils, yet it is important to select the right oils in the right amounts. Topical application of Oregano may be the best solution for a case of stubborn nail fungus, yet this is far too intense for use on soft tissue of any kind, particularly for children. Often, home mand formuals of a potent antiseptic with a known soothing oil can improve the overall effectiveness. Here we will briefly profile these highly-regarded oils, and look at some recipes and methods of application: Tea Tree (Maleluca alternafolia), Lavender (Lavendula angistifolia), Oregano (Oregano vulgar), Geranium (Geranium asperum) and Lemon. (Citrus limon).
Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifola) is known throughout the world for its protective properties against infections, and may be the hands-down most popular antiseptic essential oil. The leaves have been used for centuries to heal wounds and skin infections, and with ten times the antiseptic power of phenol (a benchmark chemical used in studying antimicrobial action) Tea Tree is a must for every natural first aid kit. One of the safest and most effective ways of controlling minor infections is the immediate intervention action of Tea Tree. For minor ears, nose, throat, respiratory and general skin infections, Tea Tree essential oil will give quick healing support. Tea tree’s tolerability allows it to be used for longer periods of time without the slightest irritation. A drop on a Band-Aid can keep the reddening indication of infection from children’s cuts and scrapes, and when combined with Lavender, makes a soothing rendition of Grandma’s healing tincture.
Lavender essential oil is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory (AND stress reducer, especially for kids), and is helpful in the healing of small burns, cuts and insect bites. Lavender is a brilliant soothing agent for nearly every situation; its aroma will bring calm – a useful effect in many situations where an antiseptic is required. For healing unbroken skin such as burns, apply Lavender ‘neat’ to the wound several times a day; insect bites also get a ‘neat’ treatment. For cuts and scrapes, keep a one-to-one blend of Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils available for the best all-purpose antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and pain relieving solution. for the young ones. This soothing, antiseptic formula can be applied directly to the skin in small amounts, or applied to dressings before application.
While the Tea Tree and Lavender blend gives us a formula for regular use, Oregano is the all-time heavy-hitter of essential oils for antimicrobial action. Oregano is serious medicine; it has been the subject of many successful scientific evaluations. Interest in the oil’s efficacy growing in amongst the world’s medical practitioners as infectious microbes become more and more resistant to synthetic antibiotics. Pure oil of Oregano is exceptionally strong – too strong for topical application except in the most stubborn cases, and then only with careful attention. Oregano holds the most promise as a systemic antimicrobial; Oregano oil can be found in enteric-coated (for targeting parasites and bacteria in the intestines) and regular capsules for support of the immune system during illness. Consult a qualified medical practitioner for dosage recommendations.
With a softer aroma and gentle effect on skin, Geranium is versatile choice for frequent use. Known as the ‘flower of constancy’, Geranium helps to lift the spirits and bring joy and happiness to one’s daily activity. Harmonizing and balancing, Geranium essential oil has the quality of equalizing hormonal and emotional extremes. These properties extends to the skin, where it creates balance between oily and dry states; Geranium helps to cleanse the skin while restoring balance, tone, and suppleness (try including in your skin care formulas at 0.5% to 3%). A non-drying, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, astringent, and general tonic, Geranium is traditionally indicated as a remedy for acne, dermatitis, eczema, and weeping wounds. Geranium essential oil is one of the few that has been used successfully against the MRSA bacteria in laboratory studies. The ‘asperum’ sub-species (also known as Egyptian Geranium) is generally considered the most potent Geranium for its antimicrobial action, with a wonderful sweet and herbaceous aroma.
Lemon essential oil is a powerful antiseptic and bactericide that performs many tasks around the house, as well as for your health. Lemon has a tonic action on the lymphatic system and a stimulating action on the digestive system, additionally providing relief from insect bites and tension headaches. Use this pleasant antimicrobial blend with confidence to clean counter tops, windows, and door handles: 2 drops each of Lemon, Pine, and Eucalyptus Radiata essential oils in 4 ounces of distilled or spring water (distilled water dries without leaving haze from mineral deposits). Keep a spray bottle of this solution handy for your day-to-day cleaning.
There are many, many choices for antibacterial and antiseptic essential oils – these are a few of the most commonly used oils with a broad range of applications. Many oils, particularly when properly blended, can have greater specificity for your individual needs. There are many excellent books available by reputable authors – ‘Advanced Aromatherapy’ and ‘Medical Aromatherapy’ by Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, and any of the books by Valerie Worwood are worth investigating to further your knowledge in the practical application of essential oils. These books cover the safe use of essential oils in general, and specific conditions you’ll want to be aware of when delving deeper into aromatherapy. In selecting essential oils over synthetic preparations, you’ll find great satisfaction making the natural choice for yourself and your family.

It Makes Sense To Use A Moisturizer With Sunscreen Deosn’t It?
April 6, 2010 by Peter Albertonach
Most people know that one of the worst things you can do for your skin is to get sunburned. So should you using a moisturizer with sunscreen?
But the answer may not be quite what you thought it might be.
There’s no doubt though that sunburn is really bad for your skin.
If you really want to make sure your skin looks older with more sagging, wrinkles, dryness and lines just make sure you get regularly sunburned from an early age.
Not to mention skin cancer.
So doesn’t it make complete sense to use a moisturizer with an spf of 15 or even 30?
Well no, but that doesn’t mean that getting sunburned is fine.
So what reason is there for avoiding moisturizers with a high spf? The reason is that there is some evidence that daily use of sunscreens can be dangerous for your health, and there is even some suggestion that it can cause cancer.
Now it certainly isn’t proven yet, but is suspected by many scientists. If, say, you use a sunscreen normally around 5 or 6 times a year then the risk is lower, but if you use a moisturizer then the chances are that you use it every day, so the risk is higher as you are using a sunscreen daily, and many days when you don’t need it.
There’s primarily 2 different types of sunscreens, those that stay on the surface and those that soak in. Those that stay on the surface are those using zinc or titanium.
If the sunscreen soaks in then a portion of them will get into your bloodstream. Possibly dangerous. And most skincare products with spf factors use the type that soaks in because it looks and feels better.
Spf factor is produced by use of synthetic chemicals, and its always a concern getting synthetic chemicals into your bloodstream.
And there’s more. If you block the sun to your face every day it’s possible that you could start to suffer from vitamin D deficiency. There are studies that show that anything up to 60% of Americans suffer from a deficiency of vitamin D. (Though not all caused by sunscreen use by any means).
So what should you do?
Use the highest quality moisturizer with no sunscreen added. In fact the manufacturer of the worlds best skin care products specifically avoids using an spf factor in their products for all the reasons outlined.
And use a sunscreen with either zinc or titanium block only on days when you really think you are at risk of sunburn. And on most days you really won’t need sunscreen anyway, so enjoy your extra supplies of vitamin D.

Searching For Organic Skin Care Products? What Are They?
March 27, 2010 by Peter Albertonach
Do you know what organic skin care products are? Or are you a little confused?
What is the safest organic moisturizer? What is organic skin care? Where do you find the best organic skin care products?
These are some of the many words that people type into their favorite search engine every day. There is a wide ranging and growing interest in natural and organic skin care products.
But whilst many people are interested in finding out about organic skin care products most don’t know what they are exactly. And there’s no easy way to tell you what they are, because there is no formal definition of the term.
What does organic mean? Search the dictionary and youll find something like this:
characteristic of, pertaining to, or derived from living organisms.
So they came from something living.
That helps, but not a lot really.
For example, are organic skin care products made only from ingredients that come from certified organic sources? Perhaps. But then what about ingredients that come from sources in different countries? What are their organic certification standards?
So what happens where an ingredient is used from a non farm source? There are excellent skin care products using a particular Japanese seaweed. The sea isn’t “certified organic” is it?
But then the sea has to be clean doesn’t it? No, there’s all sorts of toxins and contaminants in the sea, depending on where you source the product.
So can you see the problem here? There isn’t a definition of what organic skin care products really are. And you can’t know if what you see marketed as organic really is. What is an “organic moisturizer” for example?
Confusing isn’t it? The same applies to natural skin care products.
So to get an answer we need to think about what someone who searches for “organic skin care products” is really searching for.
She is trying to find a skin care line that is safe to use, and works well. Because more and more consumers are learning that most big brand skin care products (and cosmetics and much more) are filled with chemical ingredients that may be dangerous to the health, and skin. Ingredients like mercury and lead.
And even skin care products labeled organic or natural can have suspect ingredients too.
It’s sad but true. Even using “organic” or “natural” products doesn’t guarantee safety. So there are many women worldwide searching for alternative products that are safe to use.
Knowing what women are searching for is useful.
These women want safe skin care products that work. Where do we look for these?
The first place to start is with the cosmetic safety database. Here you can search any of the ingredients in any products to see if they have any risk factor to health.
And you can also find, at the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics, a compact that any company can sign that evidences their intention to use only known safe ingredients. You won’t find any of the big brand names there that have signed.
So if you are considering cosmetics or skin care products from a company that hasn’t signed then don’t buy.
There’s 2 things you can do to find safe skin care products and cosmetics. Search the ingredients, and search the compact. Find out where to do these searches at my website.
But how do you know if the products work well? That’s another matter entirely. Perfectly safe products may not work well.
In my view the only real way to find out if products work well is to try them for yourself. But if you do that you may waste quite a bit of money trying products out.
Fortunately the company that makes the worlds finest skin care products offers a money back guarantee so you can try risk free.
If their products were no good they’d go broke giving money back, so it’s not a coincidence that their products are world class.
There’s a 2 step method of finding skin care products that are both safe, and effective.
Visit my website to find out more about using these simple searches, and also to find the best skin care products that offer you a 90 day money back guarantee.

Why Is Natural Shea Butter So Good For Your Skin?
March 23, 2010 by Peter Albertonach
The whole point to natural skin care products is that they contain natural ingredients. Ingredients that are both naturally occurring and are safe to use. There are natural substances that are definitely unsafe to use, so the bit about safe to use in the products is an important point.
Natural Shea Butter is both naturally occurring and safe to use, and is an extremely effective ingredient in the best skincare products. Lets spend a little time considering what Shea Butter is and why it’s so important to use it on your skin.
Natural Shea Butter comes from the seed of the Shea Tree, which is a tree found in Africa. The fruit, or nut, is picked and then the seed is taken out and the oils extracted from the seed by means of pressure.
The resultant product is shea butter and it is in fact the extracted oils, or fats, of the Shea nut.
So why is this good for your skin? It is a fantastic moisturizer, naturally occurring. The oils from the Shea tree are virtually the same as the oils produced by the sebaceous glands of the skin. So the skin’s own moisturizer is replicated in the Shea tree, and the oil is therefore as good as the skin’s own moisturizer.
It also softens the skin and helps reduce inflammation, one of the more damaging skin conditions, and reduces scars and blemishes on the skin as well as brown spots or skin age spots.
It is very effective at reducing wrinkles.
When applied to the skin it is completely absorbed and leaves no residue on the surface of the skin. Studies have shown visible improvements in the skin in 4 to 6 weeks.
The very best Natural Shea Butter is cold pressed just like the very best Olive Oil.
And it’s used in the worlds best skincare products. And the worlds best natural skin care products even give you a money back guarantee so you can see for yourself how well it works risk free.
Hopefully that explains what Natural Shea Butter is, and why its so good for your skin.

You Can Get The Stomach You Want If You Will Work For It

Your abdominals are muscles that generally require a bit of effort to keep lean and attractive. However it’s not impossible to get ripped abs quick if you are smart about exercise and diet to achieve that sexy six pack look you want. Think of how great it’ll be when you are the object of admiration among your friends.
Bear in mind that you have to focus on two main areas of your abdomen. The first is the upper part and the second is the lower section, so you need to employ exercises that burn fat as well as tighten the muscles on both sections simultaneously. Do this correctly and you’ll get ripped abs quick.
Prior to starting any exercise you need warm-up your whole body to avoid injury. Going through a series of stretching routines and progressing through routines like climbing up stairs, jumping, sprinting, etc. will assist in burning body fat. For maximum benefit, this needs to be done on a daily basis.
Training in intervals can be very effective. Sustained, high intensity exercising cannot provide you the desired results fast but will cause you to burn out fast if you cannot keep up with the pace. So doing exercises in short spurts and resting periods can have longer lasting effects and get you in shape quicker. Once you lose the excess body fat, you can start targeting specific areas, but keep in mind that you can’t just do ab exercises, your overall body needs to be worked out before you can see results in your stomach area.
Sit-ups to crunch those abs should start off in sets of 10 reps at a time and gradually build up to about twenty. Rest between every few sets for a minute or two. Don’t be tempted to do hundreds of crunches in one go. This won’t help you get ripped abs quick, but will just tire you out.
A proper diet plan as well as an exercise program is imperative to your success. You should try to keep the calorie intake at levels appropriate to your height and current weight and then start decreasing by about 200-300 calories every few days until you reach the amount of calories needed to maintain a healthy weight. Always maintain a good balance of proteins and carbohydrates in your diet. Some fats and complex carbs are necessary to proper body function and shouldn’t be eliminated altogether. You should take in lots of fluids such as water and green tea.
You can get ripped abs quick by approaching exercise with an understanding that the whole body needs to be worked out, not just the abs. Once you shed the layer of excess fat surrounding your belly, you will find it easier to carve out that six pack.
Trying to diet is never fun, when you need to lose belly fat it can be a frustrating experience. Finding the best exercises for belly fat removal is vital.
Trouble Finding The Best All Natural Skin Care Products?
March 4, 2010 by Peter Clark
There is a worldwide movement towards more natural skin care products. And there’s a good reason for this. There are now millions of women looking for natural skin care and trying to determine which are the best all natural skin care products.
Slowly consumers are recognizing that our cosmetics and personal and body care products as well as many skin care products can contain ingredients that can potentially be dangerous.
For example lead was found in over 50% of big brand lipsticks tested in a recent study.
And it’s fine to be wanting to look better or smell better, but doing that at the risk of our health isn’t smart. Who wants lead on their lips?
As this is becoming more well known skin care manufacturers are recognizing this trend towards natural skin care and anti aging products and natural cosmetics, soaps and much much more. The are recognizing it and looking to enter the market.
Recently L’Oreal has purchased The Body Shop to get a toehold in the natural personal products market.
Back to looking at skin care products. What does “natural” or “all natural” mean for skin care products or cosmetics? No one really knows, there’s no formal definition.
It’s not known what natural formally means, and for this reason there are companies out there marketing “natural” products containing chemicals that most would not consider “natural”.
So if there are still “natural” products out there that we should avoid how do we find the best all natural skin care products?
We’re looking because we want to use the best skin care products that are SAFE to use. We don’t want to use any products that may pose any risk to our health in the process of using them.
So we can, once we know this, use this information to our advantage.
So how do we use this? We find the website for the Cosmetics Safety Database. Here you can search various ingredients used in products and find a rating of their potential health risks.
So you can look at any product and search the ingredients to see if they are considered unsafe to health. You could search “parabens” for example, (a popular chemical preservative) and see what risks parabens pose.
Then search out the website of the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics. There you can find a compact that any company can sign to pledge them to only producing safe products that don’t contain potentially dangerous ingredients. Get there and you can search this to see if the company that makes the products you use has signed.
And if you find a company that has signed the compact you know they have pledged themselves to making safe products.
So that covers safety. How do you know if the company that makes those all natural skin care products actually makes good skin care products? Well the best way I know is to find a company that gives you a money back guarantee on their products. Even amongst the good natural skin care companies getting a money back guarantee is rare.
And once you’ve done your search you’ll find that one company has signed the compact AND offers a full money back guarantee, and it’s that company that makes the best all natural skin care products.
Find out who they are on my website.
